I’m off to Belgium

I’m flying to Belgium tomorrow night (Wednesday) for my nearly-yearly visit to my family. I’m going to hang out with my sisters, mum, dad, and some long lost friends from school and Varsity, should be fun! I’m also going to go for long walks in the Belgium forests with the dogs. We have an amazingly beautiful countryside which I love re-discovering every time I go back.

You can drive from the furthest and highest point on the right of Belgium (Signal de Botrange, 694m) to the coast on the left of Belgium in just over 3,5hrs. You can even see the coastline from the highest point of Belgium on good clear days!

The country small size makes it perfect for clubbing. About 10 years ago, we would go to Holland, Germany, Luxemburg or to the North of France to go partying all night long.. and nothing beats the clubs in Belgium!! (well during my time…) 😉

Belgium has also produced the Antwerp Six, a group of world famous fashion designers (Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, Marina Yee). It is also the home of my amazing designer friend Stip.

I couldn’t finish this post without mentioning our amazing chocolates (Côte d’Or, Jacques, Galère, Léonidas) or our extensive collection of beers and complimentary cheese (I guess the monks had to come up with a solution to be able to drink more or look less drunk whislt producing exquisite alcoholic nectars…). My favourite are Pécheresse (peach beer) or Kriek Cerise (cherry beer), yum!

The saxophone was invented in Belgium by Adolphe Sax. We also have a long tradition of cartoonist like Hergé (Tintin), Peyo (The Smurf,, you know.. the little blue people with the funny white floppy hat), Bob & Bobette, Michel Vaillant, Franquin…
We also won (yay!) the Eurovision song contest in 1986 with Sandra Kim and her song called “J’aime la vie”.. I can tell you we sang that one for a while at school…

Okey,, I’m off for some frites mayonnaise, cooked twice for amazing crispi.jpgness contrasted by a soft centre.. no slap chips there… And boulettes sauce chasseur! I hope I can still go to the coast to eat des moules frites.. for all I know it might have been proclaimed a new country by the Flamish!! See you in 2 weeks 🙂

(PS.. since when is Google.be flamish!??)

Have something to say...
