Mandela Day 2017
18 July 2017 marks the commemoration of yet another Mandela Day. Every year South Africans come together in a bid to follow in the footsteps of the great visionary and exemplary leader—the late, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” – Nelson Mandela.
This legend may be gone, but his selflessness still flows deep in the veins of every South African who participates in Mandela Day activities.
27 Suitcases: A Mandela Day Initiative By Travelstart.
(As Seen On Expresso Show)
This year, in the spirit of continuing to make a difference on Mandela Day, Travelstarters have decided to join hands in an effort to make a significant transformation. We aim to exceed the allocated 67 minutes by filling 27 suitcases – one for each year Mandela was in prison – and sending them across South Africa to 27 charities in dire need of clothing, food stuffs, toiletries and lots more. Our Travelstart core values symbolise showing compassion and lending a hand wherever you can, this is why we feel especially inclined to start early in order to make an even bigger impact on the lives of others this year.

A Free Coffee For Your Troubles
We know that we can’t do this on our own, that’s why we’re calling on the public to come through and donate anything on our wishlist, which is made up of key items especially requested by our chosen charities. We will be offering every patron a free coffee for their contributions.
We’re In This Together
The 27 Suitcases Initiative is gaining ground and we have seen an overwhelming response, not only from our Travelstarters but also from the public and other organisations. As soon as Sweepsouth caught wind of the donation drive, they pitched in with their contribution. Dedicated to keeping your personal living space clean and tidy and working closely with local woman, Sweepsouth has pledged to donate 10 packs of sanitary pads towards our 27 Suitcases Initiative, which would go towards helping organisations like Saartjie Baartman, Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust and Choose Your Bruise. With your continuous help, we can change the world and build a greater tomorrow.
As Africa’s leading online travel agency, we aspire to make this the most memorable Mandela Day for the less fortunate and we know we can count on you to help us make this dream a reality.
TAKE ACTION. INSPIRE CHANGE. MAKE EVERY DAY A MANDELA DAY.
