The Wonders of Yosemite

When I told my dear friend that we were coming to visit the West Coast of the USA and hoping to see Big Sur and Yosemite, I didn’t really know what I was asking for. I’d heard of Yosemite, of course, but never done any research into what it looked like or why it was so famous.

In the days leading up to our camping trip there, my friend kept telling me how extraordinary it was, and I admit I was thinking, “She’s blowing it out of proportion. It’ll never meet my expectations now.” Jeez Louise, was I wrong! Yosemite is quite possibly the most spectacular place I have ever been.

We only spent two days there, which is not nearly enough, but we still managed to fit in a beautiful picnic by the river, an incredible night of stargazing, from our sleeping bags, on top of a giant rock under the night sky, a morning hike to the most amazing river and hidden mountain pool, another beautiful picnic, a sunset at the edge of the world, and a whole lot of laughter, gasping and photo opportunities in between.

It’s so spectacular, in fact, that words can’t do it justice. Unfortunately, photographs can’t do it justice either. You’re just going to have to go – and take my word for it, you won’t be disappointed. We were extremely lucky to go with experienced Yosemitians (not a word), but even if it’s your first time you’ll be able to soak up a lot of the wonder… My advice? Don’t stay in the valley, and don’t get caught up in all the shops and creature comforts you’ll find there. This is a place of wild wonder, and it’s so easy to get away from all the other tourists and find your very own corner of it.

Think I’m exaggerating how wonderful it is? Don’t worry, Yosemite will still exceed your expectations.
