Immediately the atrium explodes around you into light and space.<br \/>\nAs you walk through this breathtaking space, you will see how the old concrete grain silos have been sliced up to create the egg shaped space of the atrium. Run your fingers over the different textures and layers of old and new concrete and you really get a feeling for the story of an historical building remastered.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69198\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Internal.jpg\" alt=\"Zeitz MOCAA inside art\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Spend at least an hour exploring this multi-level museum. As you make your way up through the light and shadow of the cut silos, you will catch glimpses of Table Mountain and the surrounding docks through the glass windows. Once at the top, take in amazing views of Cape Town from what was once the tallest building in Southern Africa for half a century.<\/p>\n<h2>The Art<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69193\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69193\" style=\"width: 790px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-69193 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/art-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"532\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69193\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image credit @zeitzmocaa via Instagram<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The museum houses the personal collection of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jochen_Zeitz#Zeitz_Museum_of_Contemporary_Art_Africa_(Zeitz_MOCAA)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jochen Zeitz<\/a>, which is considered the world\u2019s leading collection of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. In addition to stunning painting and photography, you can see film, sculpture, even dance and music. The Zeitz MOCAA is a splash of sound and colour that echoes and bounces through the half-lit silos. Be careful not to bump your head on the bricks hanging from the ceiling!<\/p>\n<h2>The Silo District<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69195\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Silo-d.jpg\" alt=\"Zeitz MOCAA silo district\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Zeitz MOCAA is situated in the newly developed <a href=\"https:\/\/waterfront.co.za\/area\/silo-district\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silo District<\/a> of the Cape Town Waterfront. Here you will find an intriguing selection of restaurants and bars, nestled into the beautifully designed public spaces and walkways. Browse the designer stores showcasing jewellery, leather and fashion from local designers. Try the Woolies NOW NOW for quick, healthy and delicious bowls. The aptly named <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theyardatsilo.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YARD<\/a> offers a beautiful buffet, deli and fine dining option. The Silo hotel itself has a few eating options: The Granary Cafe, Willaston Bar and Silo Rooftop all offer more insight into this intriguing building.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-69197\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Lines-1.jpg\" alt=\"Zeitz MOCAA museum waterfront\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>When to go<\/h2>\n<p>Admission is FREE for African citizens on Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm. Bring your ID\/Driver\u2019s Licence\/Passport. Pay half-price (R90) every first Friday of the month, 4 pm to 9 pm. Otherwise, daily admission is R180, open from 10 am to 6 pm.
