South Africans have always just carried on to their destinations with little thought of what the United Arab Emirates&#8217; capital city has to offer, let alone stop over there for a few nights. Here are <strong>5 reasons why I think stopping in Abu Dhabi is worth it<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<h2>A heaven for motor sport fans<\/h2>\n<p>With the first Grand Prix happening in Abu Dhabi in 2009, the city rapidly became <strong>known for it&#8217;s motor sport<\/strong>. The track is a stones throw from the airport and at it&#8217;s northern tip lies the incredible, the world&#8217;s largest indoor theme park, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferrariworldabudhabi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ferrari World<\/a>! With <strong>something for the entire family<\/strong> you can experience everything from the history of Ferrari and a miniature Italian village to a huge list of rides for kids and adrenaline junkies alike.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15397\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15397\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/reasons-to-visit-abu-dhabi-dubais-neighbour\/sheikh-zayed-mosque\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15397\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-15397\" title=\"Sheikh Zayed Mosque\" alt=\"facade of white sheikh zayed mosque in abu dhabi\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Sheikh-Zayed-Mosque.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is home to the world&#8217;s largest chandelier and carpet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>The biggest and best buildings<\/h2>\n<p>Abu Dhabi is famous for other <strong>large and expensive buildings <\/strong>too, including the second most expensive hotel in the world by building costs &#8211; the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emirates_Palace\" target=\"_blank\">Emirates Palace Hotel<\/a> cost R23billion to construct! It is also home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sheikh_Zayed_Mosque\" target=\"_blank\">Sheikh Zayed Mosque<\/a>, one of the largest and most expensive in the world. This brilliant white building with 18 carat gold accents has a capacity of 40,000 people, and is home to the <strong>world&#8217;s largest carpet and the world&#8217;s largest chandelier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Abu Dhabi is rich in culture &amp; history<\/h2>\n<p>AbuDhabi is often outshone by Dubai&#8217;s glitz, but one thing it lauds over it&#8217;s show-off neighbour is a much richer cultural element.
