She&#8217;s taken the liberty of compiling a handy <strong>Zanzibar travel guide<\/strong> and checklist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/zanzibar-travel-guide\/honeymoon-022\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17870\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-17870\" title=\"Zanzibar Fisherman \" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Honeymoon-022.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go for your Yellow Fever injection and Malaria tablets before you leave your home country<\/li>\n<li>South Africans &#8211; Exchange your Rands into US Dollars, it is the best\u00a0 currency to have on you. Most Zanzibar hotels do accept credit cards<\/li>\n<li>When you arrive in Tanzania exchange some of your US Dollars into Tanzanian Shillings. You will need small currency to tip the locals and to buy things<\/li>\n<li>When shopping in Zanzibar, always ask for the cost in Shillings because if it\u2019s in Dollars you will be paying too much<\/li>\n<li>Pack light clothes and sandals, it gets very hot in Zanzibar<\/li>\n<li>Pack loads of sunscreen and a hat, there is nothing like bad sunburn to ruin a holiday<\/li>\n<li>For the smokers, take a carton of your own cigarettes, as the cigarette brands available in Zanzibar are limited<\/li>\n<li>DO NOT DRINK THE WATER.\u00a0 Always drink bottled water and ask for drinks without ice in the local pubs as they may use normal tap water for their ice. Most Zanzibar hotels, like Coral Rock use bottled water to make their ice<\/li>\n<li>Learn a few basic Swahili words. The locals love it when you greet them in their own language and it shows you have respect for them.\u00a0 HALLO &#8211; \u201cJambo\u201d, a more slang greeting such as HI WHATS UP \u201cMambo, Weepee\u201d. I\u2019M FINE \u2013 \u201cPoa, Poa\u201d. THANK YOU \u201cAsante Sana\u201d.\u00a0 WELCOME \u201cKaribu\u201d.\u00a0 NO PROBLEM\/WORRIES\u00a0 \u201cHakuna Matata\u201d. ONE \u201cMoja\u201d; TWO \u201cBilli\u201d; THREE \u201cTatu\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t bring Tanzanian Shillings back to your home country. South African foreign exchange kiosks will not accept it<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t bring back sand or shells, it is not allowed and you will be fined<\/li>\n<li>When walking in the sea lookout for Sea Urchins.
