While many of the actual location names have been changed in the book, they\u2019re still easily recognizable to readers that know the Mother City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/james-bond-carte-blanche-cape-town\/james-bond\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19945\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19945\" title=\"James Bond\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/James-Bond.jpg\" alt=\"James Bond\" width=\"570\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>The Plot<\/h3>\n<p>In a nutshell, the book sees Bond arriving in Cape Town to protect British interests against a potential terror attack. He\u2019s given <em>Carte Blanche<\/em> to deal with the threat and is assisted by a local policewoman (uh-oh). For the Bond car enthusiasts, I can confirm that he\u2019s driving a Bentley Continental GT in this one.<\/p>\n<h3>007 in the 021<\/h3>\n<p>Deaver chose Cape Town as the location for his book as he has been coming to <a title=\"Cape Town Number 1 Tourist Destination in 2011\" href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/cape-town-number-1-tourist-destination-in-2011\/\" target=\"_self\">Cape Town<\/a> for ten years. He says he loves South Africa and wanted to set the Bond story in the Ian Fleming approach of places that are \u2018beautiful and exotic and appealing\u2019.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19946\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19946\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/james-bond-carte-blanche-cape-town\/cape-winelands\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-19946\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19946\" title=\"Cape Winelands\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Cape-Winelands.jpg\" alt=\"Cape Winelands\" width=\"570\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19946\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Cape Winelands \u2013 Good enough for James Bond? Bond orders Rustenberg Peter Barlow Cabernet and enjoys a 2003 Graham Beck Cuvee Clive. There\u2019s plenty of other South Africanisms in the book including recommendations made to Bond to try bobotie and biltong and to drink \u2018Zulu beer\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Given 007\u2019s worldwide popularity, it\u2019s onwards and upwards for Cape Town\u2019s visibility on the world stage. This is welcome news for Cape Town\u2019s embattled hospitality industry.\u00a0 Almost a quarter of a million copies of the new Bond book will be sold in the UK alone.<\/p>\n<h2>James Bond Movie in Cape Town<\/h2>\n<p>Plans are in the pipeline for <strong>James Bond to film in Cape Town<\/strong> with Daniel Craig playing the title role. Details are vague at this point but apparently film director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli have been seen around the peninsula scouting locations for a movie.
