This <strong>4-Star Cape Town hotel<\/strong> is directly across from our offices on <strong>Greenmarket Square<\/strong>, so straight after work last Thursday (22<sup>nd<\/sup> September 2011) we dashed across the piazza motivated by thoughts of a slap up dinner at the Inn\u2019s <strong>Dish restaurant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-cape-town\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20719\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20719\" title=\"Inn on the Square Hotel Cape Town\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Inn-on-the-Square-Hotel-Cape-Town.jpg\" alt=\"Inn on the Square Hotel Cape Town\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a>Inn on the Square recently underwent a <strong>33 Million Rand &#8216;soft&#8217;<\/strong><strong> refurbishment<\/strong> and the improvements are evident the moment you step off the square and into the hotel\u2019s foyer. Check in went smoothly and took about two minutes thanks to the professionalism and efficiency of <strong>Cindy Oormeyer<\/strong> at reception. After checking in, I immediately took the lift to my room on the 7<sup>th<\/sup> floor, excited to see the results of the modifications carried out in the winter months.<\/p>\n<h2>Inn on the Square Accommodation Review<\/h2>\n<p>I had been booked into Room 708 &#8211; a <strong>Standard Double Room<\/strong> (nonsmoking). The first thing that struck me about the room was the <strong>great views you have of Table Mountain<\/strong> and Devil\u2019s Peak as well as the activity going on in the square below. The sellers were packing up for the day when I arrived so there was quite a lot of noise coming from below, however, this was easily solved by closing the window.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/standard-double-room\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20722\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20722\" title=\"Standard Double Room\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Standard-Double-Room.jpg\" alt=\"Standard Double Room\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a>The room is small but intelligent use of the space means it doesn\u2019t feel pokey. A wall mounted Plasma TV provides a sleek and unobtrusive entertainment solution and additional reading lights above the bed are a bright and useful touch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20723\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20723\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/table-mountain-view\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20723\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20723 \" title=\"Table Mountain View\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Table-Mountain-View.jpg\" alt=\"Table Mountain View\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20723\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View of Table Mountain from Inn on the Square<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Room Features<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Coffee\/Tea Station (incl. plunger style filter coffee)<\/li>\n<li>Satellite TV with a bouquet of channels including local, sport, movie channels, music and international news \u2013 no on demand TV or pay-per-view<\/li>\n<li>Air Conditioned<\/li>\n<li>Hair Dryer<\/li>\n<li>Electronic Safes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Free Wi-Fi <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Desk<\/li>\n<li>Recently <strong>refurbished bathroom<\/strong> including <strong>powerful shower head<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/room-features\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20724\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20724\" title=\"Room Features\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Room-Features.jpg\" alt=\"Room Features\" width=\"570\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After examining the room I made myself a cup of filter coffee with the plunger provided then headed downstairs to <strong>Dish Cigar Bar &amp; Lounge<\/strong> to meet Wouter, Helen and Jonty from Travelstart.<\/p>\n<h2>Dish Restaurant Review<\/h2>\n<p>Dish is the Inn\u2019s on site restaurant. There are 2 parts to it \u2013 the <em>Dish Cigar Bar &amp; Lounge<\/em> (West of the foyer) and the Dish dining area to the east. There is also a large outdoor veranda* that looks directly on to Greenmarket Square, however, we opted to stay indoors as the Cape Town winter isn\u2019t finished just yet.<\/p>\n<p>*In the summer months, Inn on the Square hosts a braai\/barbeque (also open to the public) on their veranda. <a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/wine-cooler\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20725\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20725\" title=\"Wine Cooler\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Wine-Cooler.jpg\" alt=\"Wine Cooler\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Naturally, we started at the bar before making our way across the foyer to dinner. There are 2 lounge areas in the bar (both with fireplaces) which create a cozy atmosphere especially on cool winter evenings. A stylish, temperature controlled cellar houses a selection of fine local wines and there are a range of quality cigars on offer. The bar staff had no knowledge of this blog and were observant from the outset &#8211; Always friendly and always there to offer you another drink and a clean ashtray.<\/p>\n<p>Next was dinner. The 7 of us were seated by <strong>Frederick <\/strong>(the Inn\u2019s F&amp;B Manager) and were introduced to our waiter for the evening. His service throughout the evening was impeccable \u2013 not overbearing but always on hand for any request. <strong>Craig Anderson<\/strong>, Exec Chef at <strong>Dish Restaurant at Inn on the Square<\/strong> introduced us to the menu for the evening \u2013 a good variety of salads, light meals, poultry, seafood, pasta and meat dishes. The food and wine pairings on the menu should help you with your selections for your evening. <a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/dish-cigar-bar\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20726\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-20726\" title=\"Dish Cigar Bar\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Dish-Cigar-Bar.jpg\" alt=\"Dish Cigar Bar\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sandy walked me through some of the changes that have been made to the hotel over dinner. The building is a <strong>National Monument<\/strong> so full blown structural changes aren\u2019t possible, and in my opinion aren\u2019t necessary. Most of the surface changes that have been made are designed to enhance comfort for guests as well as bring the hotel up-to-date as we head into 2012\u2026 even the iconic clock which graces the upper most part of the building is keeping up with the times again.<\/p>\n<p>While they\u2019re still ironing out a few cosmetic glitches (which weren\u2019t even visible to my naked eye), the soft refurbishment has freshened up the art deco building\u2019s interior dramatically. The layout of the hotel is much the same as before but new carpets and a fresh coat of paint have gone a long way in uplifting the interiors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/inn-on-the-square-foyer\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20727\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20727\" title=\"Inn on the Square Foyer\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Inn-on-the-Square-Foyer.jpg\" alt=\"Inn on the Square Foyer\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What we like about Inn on the Square<\/h2>\n<p>Aside from the Inn on the Square being opposite our offices, we like that you walk out the front doors of the hotel and you\u2019re greeted by the hustle and bustle of <strong>Cape Town\u2019s famous Greenmarket Square<\/strong>. The rhythmic Marimba band draws you in as you browse the stands. The market is a buzzing hub and visitors to the <strong>Mother City<\/strong> will most certainly pick up a fantastic souvenir to take home. Sellers come from all over Africa to sell their wares and you can find anything from T-Shirts with a unique African flavour to authentic woodcarvings and beadwork.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20728\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20728\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/greenmarket-square\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20728\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-20728 \" title=\"Greenmarket Square\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Greenmarket-Square.jpg\" alt=\"Greenmarket Square\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20728\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Greenmarket Square from Above<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The hotel is also in close proximity to a number of fine restaurants and quaint sidewalk caf\u00e9s as well as <strong>Cape Town\u2019s famous Long Street<\/strong> if you\u2019re looking to indulge in the best of the Mother City\u2019s nightlife scene.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, you\u2019re not far from all the delights of the Mother City when you stay at Inn on the Square. With Greenmarket Square on your doorstep, the <a title=\"A Day at the V&amp;A Waterfront\" href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/a-day-at-the-vna-waterfront\/\" target=\"_blank\">V&amp;A Waterfront<\/a> in close proximity and the Table Mountain Cableway just up the road; everything is just really accessible meaning you save on transport and are able to explore Cape Town on your own terms.<\/p>\n<h3>Value Adds<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Same day laundry service available except Sunday\u2019s and Public Holidays<\/li>\n<li>Airport Transfers can be arranged<\/li>\n<li>In house concierge available<\/li>\n<li>Rooftop pool, Gym and Sauna. Sandy told me the gym will be upgraded with new equipment and Plasma TV\u2019s\u00a0soon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartstg.wpenginepowered.com\/inn-on-the-square-hotel-review\/inn-on-the-square-facilites\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-20729\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20729\" title=\"Inn on the Square Facilites\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Inn-on-the-Square-Facilites.jpg\" alt=\"Inn on the Square Facilites\" width=\"570\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Round Up<\/h3>\n<p>Location, Location, Location as they say is what it\u2019s all about and Inn on the Square couldn\u2019t be in a better position. Whether you\u2019re doing business in the Cape Town CBD or want to be close to all of <strong>Cape Town\u2019s attractions<\/strong> for your leisurely holiday, Inn on the Square has a prime location.<\/p>\n<p>It honestly feels like you\u2019re getting a 5-Star product at 4-Star prices when you stay at Inn on the Square. In a sentence the staff was polite, efficient, attentive and approachable while the rooms were spotless, modern and comfortable.
