Secondly, upon landing at <strong>Changi Airport<\/strong> and clearing passport control, there\u2019s an excellent <strong>MRT train<\/strong> that can have you in the city centre within half an hour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/orchard-road-shopping.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21434\" title=\"orchard-road-shopping\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/orchard-road-shopping.jpg\" alt=\"Orchard Road Shopping\" width=\"570\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had an <strong>11 hour stopover in Singapore<\/strong> on a <strong>flight from Bali to South Africa<\/strong>. The guys I was travelling with wanted to buy some tech stuff and with 11 hours to spare, this was the perfect opportunity to go explore the city and buy some <strong>cheap gadgets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Want to stay in Singapore longer? At the time of publishing this article (29 November 2011), the exchange rate is <strong>1 SGD = 6.42818 ZAR<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Sim Lim Square<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21430\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21430\" style=\"width: 158px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sim-lim-square.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21430\" title=\"sim-lim-square\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/sim-lim-square.jpg\" alt=\"Sim Lim Square\" width=\"168\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Six floors of electronics inside Sim Lim Square<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If there\u2019s one reason to <strong>stopover in Singapore<\/strong> it\u2019s for the well-priced gadgets and <strong>Sim Lim Square<\/strong> delights with <strong>six floors of electronic heaven<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Most shop owners at Sim Lim Square are open to negotiation &#8211; just don\u2019t be rude to them or they\u2019ll be equally rude to you. They\u2019re professionals so <strong>use sound bargaining techniques<\/strong>; a polite way to open your negotiations is by asking \u201c<em>Is this your best price?<\/em>\u201d That said; make sure you know the market price of the item you want before you blindly start trying to get the best deal.<\/p>\n<p>Get on the MRT at Changi Airport and travel into the city getting off at Rochor Canal Road. The journey takes just over 10 minutes one way.<\/p>\n<h2>Budget Singapore<\/h2>\n<p>While Singapore can be a costly place to visit, it can still be <strong>done on a budget<\/strong>. Here are a few things you can do without burning too much money.<\/p>\n<h3>Observation Deck at Marina Bay Sands<\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>Marina Bay Sands <\/strong>hotel is one of the latest additions to the Singapore skyline and offers unmatched, 360 degree views of the city.
