For all those tourists coming to South Africa and wanting to experience a real South African weekend away, I thought it was a good idea to list all the necessary ingredients to pack if you\u2019re heading to a holiday home with a few friends.<\/p>\n

Are you ready? Here goes:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Braai meat
    \nPerhaps the most important thing to pack, as you will no doubt be braaiing every night you are away. Be sure to bring at least twice as much as you think you need, including, of course, some boerewors (South African sausage).<\/li>\n
  2. Drinks
    \nAnd plenty of them. The beauty of a weekend away is that nobody has to drive, which means everybody can (and will) drink.<\/li>\n
  3. Swimming costume \/ walking shoes
    \nFor the obligatory hour or so of exercise sometime on Saturday (morning or afternoon).<\/li>\n
  4. Something to read
    \nThis doesn\u2019t have to be anything intelligent, just something to look at while you\u2019re lying on the couch in the afternoon, recovering from the obligatory exercise.<\/li>\n
  5. Far too much food
    \nAgain, probably twice as much as you will actually need \u2013 the point of going away for the weekend is to eat as much as you possibly can, especially if it\u2019s food you wouldn\u2019t normally eat in real life (i.e. plenty of chips, lots of treats, probably a cake if you can manage it).<\/li>\n
  6. 30 Seconds
    \nThe must-play weekend-away game. Pretty difficult to master if you\u2019re not South African, as most of the questions are very South African focused.<\/li>\n
  7. Strong coffee
    \nTo wake you up after a night of eating too much meat, drinking too much and playing too much 30 Seconds!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    There you have it: the essential ingredients for a South African weekend away. Clothing and toiletries help too, of course.<\/p>\n
