We headed south and stopped off in Portland, Oregon for a few nights. It is known for its food, coffee, as a place to get a tattoo and for its strip clubs &#8211; the city of roughly 600 000 has more than 60 strips clubs, while neighboring cities of similar size like Seattle have about ten. We had some good food and coffee there. Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/voodoodoughnut.com\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Voodoo Doughnuts<\/a> for a mid-morning pick-me-up.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30232\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30232\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30232\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/seattle.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"570\" height=\"570\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30232\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Goodbye Seattle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We then made our way down to California,\u00a0the Golden State, but it was all\u00a0but golden. In fact, it was pouring with rain. But this didn\u2019t dampen out spirits as we headed for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Redwood_National_and_State_Parks\" target=\"_blank\">Redwood National and State Parks<\/a>\u00a0along the Redwood Highway. There is a patchwork of these parks and we drove through all of them but focussed on the national park and Prairie Creek. We stayed in Trinidad, a tiny coastal town right near the old-growth Redwood forests. We went on some great hikes and it is difficult to convey the size and magnificence of these amazing trees so I will let the pictures do the talking&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30233\"
