So when word started circulating the office about a scale plane that was going to be hung in the Cape Town office in the coming weeks, there was a distinct stir of interest and enthusiasm as we all anticipated the arrival of this monument to our momentum.<\/p>\n<p>Check out the video below documenting our current big story &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xoz23JQNhNc?controls=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>About our H1 Racer replica<\/h2>\n<p>The plane is a 1\/3 scale Hughes H1 Racer model, and was built by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aerodrome.se\/\" target=\"_blank\">Swedish aviator Mikael Carlson<\/a>. Mikael is a commercial and display pilot, aircraft builder and restorer and model builder.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hughes_H-1_Racer\" target=\"_blank\">Hughes H1 Racer<\/a>, built in 1935 and funded by aviation and film pioneer <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Howard_Hughes\" target=\"_blank\">Howard Hughes<\/a> (you might remember him from the award winning 2004 flick <i>The Aviator)<\/i>, broke the world record for being the fastest plane in the world at the time, reaching speeds of 566km\/h.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-33453 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/Howard-Hughes-H1-Racer1.jpg\" alt=\"Howard Hughes H1 Racer\" width=\"570\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33398\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/the-aviator.jpg\" alt=\"the-aviator\" width=\"570\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/8.-stephen.jpg\" alt=\"8.-stephen\" width=\"570\" height=\"205\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/1.The-plane-builder.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33386\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/1.The-plane-builder.jpg\" alt=\"1.The-plane-builder\" width=\"570\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Freight<\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/2.-the-box.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33388\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/2.-the-box.jpg\" alt=\"The H1 Racer Box\" width=\"570\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Much like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">the journey Stephan made with his family in 2004<\/a>, the plane was packaged and shipped from Sweden to Travelstart&#8217;s head office in Cape Town, South Africa. The total weight of the plane and the box totalled 146kg!<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Assembly<\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33389\" src=\"https:\/\/travelstartmu.wpenginepowered.com\/zablog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/10\/3.unpacking.jpg\" alt=\"Unpacking the plane \" width=\"570\" height=\"205\" \/><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Soon after the H1 Racer landed in Cape Town, Mikeal Carlson touched down. He spent 1 week in Cape Town.
