The multi-coloured flora of the West Coast signals spring in the Southern Hemisphere, and during the months of\u00a0August and September, the wildflower displays at the West Coast National Park are among the best in the world.<\/p>\n

The West Coast National Park, located about\u00a0100km from Cape Town, is home to nearly 4000 species of flowering plants! You can expect to see a visual feast of colourful Gazanias, Felicia, Watsonia, Ixia and many more.<\/p>\n
The Postberg section of the West Coast National Park is the most popular as this is where the flowers are in full bloom. This section of the park is only open 2 months of the year \u2013 August and September \u2013 and it gets busy, particularly on weekends where congestion at the park gates can be an issue. As with most popular outings, get there early and you should be alright.<\/p>\n
Remember to pack your camera, a hat and sunscreen, and call the park on 022 772-2144\/5 to see what the conditions are like before you make the drive.<\/p>\n
For the 2014 season, SANParks has devised three different self-drive flower tour options for you \u2013 decide which one to do and explore the entire national park, not just the Postberg Section (route maps will be given to you on entering the park). Spectacular flowers can also be seen at the Seeberg lookout point and throughout the whole park.<\/p>\n
Directions to the West Coast National Park<\/b><\/p>\n
The West Coast National Park lies 120km north of Cape Town. From Cape Town, simply jump from the N1 to the R27 up the West Coast. You can enter the park through the R27 and Langebaan gates but be prepared for long queues on weekends and public holidays as these are the busiest times.<\/p>\n
