You will now be charged a small fee but it is not necessary to book as there are always sufficient camp sites available. Remember to go in a 4&#215;4, take toiletry essentials, and drinking water.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting there:<\/strong> There are direct flights from <a title=\"Flights from JNB to Maun\" href=\"https:\/\/www.travelstart.co.za\/international\/return?error=empty-search-response&amp;host=vd-live-web3-33@&amp;session-id=96BB43082657F55E83C00FA796212A08&amp;\">Johannesburg to Maun<\/a>, but you will need to rent a car from Maun to get to the Tsodilo hills (7 hour drive) so more affordable to do a self-drive holiday depending on how much time you have available. It&#8217;s a 20 hour drive from Johannesburg to the Tsodilo hills so best broken up into a three day drive. Expect dramatic mountains, little-visited rock paintings and absolute serenity. If you visit in winter you are almost guaranteed knee-deep snow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Luxury Accommodation:<\/strong> Maliba Mountain Lodge from R1680 per person per night sharing (meals included).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Budget Friendly Accommodation:<\/strong> there is camping available near to the old Jonathan Lodge (the lodge closed in 2013 but camping is still possible). Find it <a title=\"Location of Old Jonathan Lodge\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.za\/maps\/place\/29%C2%B052'07.7%22S+29%C2%B006'58.2%22E\/@-29.9167285,29.1018723,12.28z\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting there:<\/strong>\u00a0The easiest route is through the Qacha\u2019s Nek border post (north of Matatiele, Eastern Cape). This will take 4 hours. The Ramatseliso\u2019s Gateborder post is closer but is strictly a 4\u00d74 only route from South Africa. For a route big on adventure there&#8217;s an 8 hour drive from Sani Pass (you will definitely require a GPS).<\/p>\n<h2>4. There is also a museum entrance fee of $5 for kids and $10 for adults.<\/p>\n<h2>6. You can also rent a car from Sixt in Nampula but it can be quite pricy (about R1260 a day)- taking buses and chapas will take longer but will be an interesting experience and will make good travel memories. Get a chapa to the bus station a little on the outside of Nampula and then wait for the bus to Ilha de Mozambique to fill up (could take about 4 hours for the bus to leave and then probably the same amount of time to get to the island).<\/p>\n<h2>10.
