The reservoir is not used to supply water so can be enjoyed by swimmers with their dogs. Newcomers get a bit of a fright on a clear day when the sound cuts like a knife. Rest-assured it is the noon gun, Cape Town&#8217;s time signal since 1806. Since 1864 the Noon Gun has been fired from the master clock of the oldest timekeeper in the country, the South African Astronomical Observatory. FYI: One day in June 1895 the gun fired an hour and a half too early when a spider interfered with the relay used to remotely fire the gun!<br \/>\nFollow the signs to the gun in the Bo-kaap.<\/p>\n<p>Cost: free!<\/p>\n<h2>11.
