Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is a great month in South Africa; summer is on the way and we are all start planning our end of year holidays. More importantly, October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to the South African  National Cancer Registry, one in 29 women in South Africa will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Like other types of cancer early detection can make all the difference.

That is why initiatives such as PinkDrive are so important. Dedicated to improving breast cancer awareness through education and providing services to women across South Africa; their education units operate in 80 community health centres in Gauteng in addition to a mammography unit which provides screening at 3 centres in the Cape Town area. This October the PinkDrive mobile units will be travelling around the country offering screenings and education on how to detect and prevent breast cancer. Pick n Pay are sponsoring a series of 5km Women’s Walks to raise funds that will go a long way in helping to support the amazing work done by PinkDrive.
