About South African Airways:
South Africa Airways (SAA) began operations on 1 February 1934. SAA, is a leading carrier in Africa, serving six regional destinations between Johannesburg and Accra, Kinshasa, Harare, Lusaka, Lagos, Mauritius and 1 domestic route between Johannesburg and Cape Town. More destinations will be added to the route network as the airline ramps up operations in response to market conditions.
SAA is a member of the largest international airline network, Star Alliance. SAA’s core business is the provision of passenger airline and cargo transport services together with related services, which are provided through SAA’s wholly owned subsidiaries: SAA Technical (SAAT), a world class maintenance facility and Air Chefs, the inflight catering entity of the airline. It is expected that your carry-on baggage will fit under the seat or the overhead bin. Personal items like purses, overcoats and laptops are allowed.
Each class has a weight restriction and you may be charged more if you exceed the baggage limit stipulated for your cabin class.

Travelling with pets on SAA
With the exception of service dogs, pets cannot be carried in the passenger cabin on SAA flights.
Service dogs are carried free of charge.
The weight of the animal and its container will be charged as excess baggage. It is not accepted as part of free baggage allowance.
It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that the animals are properly crated and accompanied by valid health and vaccination certificates, entry permits and other documents required by countries of entry or transit.
If you wish to travel with your pets on SAA, please make the necessary arrangements with SAA’s Cargo department on 011 978 3366 before you fly.
Check-in for domestic SAA flights opens 2 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before take-off.
For SAA flights to the USA, passengers must check in at least 3 hours before departure. On all other international flights, passengers must check in at least two and a half hours before take-off.
Online, mobile, social media and self-service kiosk check-in is also available for departure from selected airports.
SAA offers its passengers 2 different seating options when booking tickets, namely:
• Business Class
• Economy Class
You are treated to audio video-on-demand on long haul regional and international flights. Business class and Economy class seats are fitted with personalised screens. There are over 100 movies, access to 100 TV features, 15 games, 14 radio station channels and more than 170 music albums just for your enjoyment.
SAA is currently consolidating its flight routes and flight schedules. We encourage you to stay abreast of SAAs media statements to see if any of your flights are affected.
On the domestic route network, SAA will continue to serve Cape Town on a reduced basis
All other domestic destinations, including Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth, will cease to be operated by SAA on 29th February 2020. (Domestic routes operated by Mango will not be affected by the changes)
SAA flies to Frankfurt, London, New York, Washington and Perth.
In addition to direct flights to New York, SAA offers direct flights to Washington Dulles Airport from Johannesburg on the Airbus A340-600. This long-haul flight has a brief stop in Dakar, Senegal.
SAA fleet information
The South African Airways current fleet consists of the following aircraft. Airbus A319-100, Airbus A320-200, Airbus A321-200, Airbus A330-200, Airbus A340-300, Airbus A340-600 and Boeing 737-800.
Its cargo fleet includes: Boeing 737-200, Boeing 737-300 and Boeing 737-400.
