A glossy new magazine, "So Joburg" aims to bring the vibe and pi.jpgzzazz of the city of gold to readers here and around the world.
Johannesburg has so much to offer visitors – from entertainment hotspots and fascinating people to cultural and world-class sporting events. And all this is captured in a new glossy lifestyle magazine, So Joburg.
The magazine features the best of Joburg in people, fashion, property, restaurants, events, hotels, business and sport.
Lindiwe Mahlangu, the chief executive of the JTC, says the city holds a bouquet of lifestyle offerings like those of the best cities in the world, from Broadway-inspi.jpgred shows to serene parks to exclusive luxury brand boutiques and small antique shops.
"So Joburg", published in partnership with Uhuru Communications, is the only official lifestyle publication of the City of Johannesburg. With an initial print run of 20 000 copi.jpges, it will be distributed bi-monthly for free at shoppi.jpgng malls, hotels and airline lounges and select South African embassies from this month.
About the title, So Joburg, Mahlangu says the JTC wanted to reflect "the essence of the city, its sassiness, its in-your-face joie de vivre".
"The title acknowledges the uniqueness of the city; everything in Joburg is bigger, faster and glitzier – we have a distinctive way of doing things around here, one that is So Joburg."
Johannesburg has some superb restaurants, and the first edition explores eight of these fine restaurants, found in some of the most affluent suburbs of the city and in Soweto.
One of Joburg’s most popular tourist spots, the Lion Park in the north, is featured. It is just 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Sandton. The magazine also looks at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown. Here, Soweto’s unique historical and cultural heritage is on display in the form of sculptures, memorials and the bustling market a stone’s throw from the Kliptown Holiday Inn.
Looking into the future, Mahlangu sees the magazine as the definitive guide to Joburg. "With an increasing distribution network planned for the future, this magazine will become a must-have for all those who want to be kept updated about Joburg action."
