SA Epic Tour: Monkeys and Phantom Forests

Tree Suite

Tree Suite

Last night we had the opportunity, well, really, the honour of staying at one of the most extraordinary places I have ever been to. The magical Phantom Forest outside Knysna. It is so hard to explain how amazing this place is, it’s best to look at our pics on Flickr, but I will certainly try to give you some insight.

When we arrived, we parked the car in the car park and were ushered to the welcome cabin before a driver was sent down to collect our bags and ourselves and ferry us up the really steep hill through thick forest to the top, to the resort itself. Now normally I would not be the one to stick myself away at a resort and not leave, but this place, no one could ever want to leave. Everywhere around you is forest and wildlife from loeries to monkeys, it’s a very natural experience. But this is one place you don’t have to fear a miserably camping type feel (if you fear such things), everything is utter luxury.

Our cabin was done out with the most amazing decor and comforts, complete with mini-bar, hair-dryer, mozzie nets and bath-robes. The bathroom though was the crown on it! With a massive candle-lit bath with full glass windows over-looking the forest and a full glass-fronted shower with the same view. It is just too stunning for words! Oh, and if you’re worried about the neighbours peering at your naughty bits, don’t stress, you’re hundreds of meters and swathes of forest from the next cabin!

Dinner can be done either at the boma restaurant with a stunning out-door fireplace with 6 courses or at the Chutzbah, a magnificent Maroccan themed restaurant with a stunning pool overlooking the lagoon from right on top of the hill. And if you think that makes for a romantic experience, why not book a private forest hot tub session, yes you get a hot tub in the middle of the forest all to yourselves!

I could go on and on about this incredible place, but check out our Flickr page to get the full picture. Definitely give this place a visit!

Tonight, we’re staying Plett and it’s looking to be an awesome one, Plett people have been super friendly!
