What Is 3D Secure? – FAQ Fridays

Video Transcription

Hello and welcome to another edition of Travelstart’s FAQ Friday with me, Nick Paul.

This week we are talking about 3D Secure.

What is 3D Secure?

It is a security feature rolled out by law for all online retailers, which includes us as an online travel agent. It is pin or password authentication; a pop up is displayed before you are able to proceed with a transaction.

It is only for Visa and Master Card transactions. For Visa it is called Verified by Visa and for MasterCard it is called MasterCard Secure Code.

Why is this being implemented?

It is an added security feature that makes sure that nobody can use your card for online transactions on sites that use 3D Secure. Money is also charged much more smoothly and quickly via 3D Secure.

How does this impact bookings with Travelstart?

It is only currently being rolled out for bookings made 3 to 48 hours in advance of travel. If you are booking more than 2 days before you are traveling it is not currently rolled out for that, but will be soon.

A pop up will come up when you select to pay by credit card, prompting you to put in a pin. If you are not registered for 3D Secure with your bank, it will prompt you to register now. If you are already registered it will send you a one time password to your mobile phone, which you then enter online.

Summary

Register for 3D secure with your bank as soon as possible as it will be rolling out across all online retailers and it is a great security feature which will make shopping online much more secure.

That’s it from me this week. If you have any questions please post them in the comments section below and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel.
