They have a following that spans continents and are generally seen as the global authority on travel tips, reviews and destination insight. The recent Trip Advisor Travellers Choice Awards took place and saw our very own Cape Town walking away with the prestigious title of best tourist destination in 2011 beating some very tough competition along the way.

An award of this size is a huge achievement for the Mother City and is going to go a long way in further entrenching Cape Town and South Africa as the top tourist destination in the world. Mariëtte also acknowledges that the award doesn’t mean it’s time for us to slack off and the award will be made to work hard for the city of Cape Town.
Despite the onset of winter in the Mother City the future is looking very bright for Cape Town. The current ‘vote for Table Mountain’ campaign and more recently Cape Town’s bid to become the World Design Capital in 2014 will further establish Cape Town’s appeal on the world stage sending a strong message to international travellers that South Africa is a tourist friendly destination and one of the most beautiful countries in the world. With Cape Town as our flagship tourist city, things are on the up and up for South Africa as a whole.
