    • Hi David, locally Mango offer wifi. Internationally it is becoming a lot more common. American based providers Honeywell Aerospace and Gogo are linking up with Inmarsat to create the “first global high-speed broadband for the skies”. Expect speeds of up to 50 megabytes per second. Exciting times!

  3. How do I get a Schengen visa?

    • Hi Patrick! To get a Schengen visa you will need to make sure your trip is booked and paid for already, particularly your flights and/or accommodation. You’ll also need to get yourself comprehensive travel insurance and proof of sufficient funds/foreign exchange for your trip. Once that’s done, you’ll need to look at which country you’re spending the longest time in, in Europe. The schengen area has 26 member states. The country you’re spending the longest in, will be the country you’re applying to. All Schengen applications have to be done in person and the price varies depending on the country you’re applying to, it averages out around R1000 per person.

  4. Do different seats cost different amounts?

    • Hi Janelle! Where you sit on the plane doesn’t impact the price in most situations, with the exception of if you buy a business or first class seat which has it’s own perks. The only time where this may apply to regular economy class seats is for extra-legroom seats like emergency exit, and the front-of-plane “bulkhead” seats where there is no row in front of you. These seats are handed out at a fee on check-in by some airlines.

      The confusion probably comes in where travel agents refer to cheaper and more expensive “seats”. This is in fact a misnomer, they are in fact referring to cheaper and more expensive tickets – or to be really pedantic, different booking classes which are price classes for tickets. But, because 1 ticket = 1 seat, it’s easy to see how the confusion came about. In fact, on any plane, you could have bought the cheapest ticket available and the person next to you could easily have spent double or even triple. Essentially the cheaper “booking classes” are made available earlier on before the flight departure, with limited availability, as more people book, the more expensive the flight gets as these cheaper classes are sold out. The goal for any airline is to both fill a plane and make as much money out of every client as reasonably possible without driving them away.

      The difference between the booking classes? Aside from the price, the more pricey the ticket in relation to its cheapest counterpart, the more flexible it is in terms of allowing for ammendments, cancellations and stopovers.

    • Hi Desiree, if you are arriving in Turkey before the 11th of April 2014 you can apply for a free 30 day visa on a arrival. If you are planning to arrive any time after the 11th of April 2014 you will be required to apply for an electronic visa before you depart: https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ This visa will give you 30 days in Turkey and is also free of charge.

    • If you are booking directly with the airline they may require that. But if you are booking with Travelstart you won’t need the credit card in New York.

      1) Yes – 100%. Here is a link to a step-by-step guide on obtaining a non-immigrant visa for the US: http://southafrica.usembassy.gov/visas_niv_guide.html – the visa will be vaild for 10 years and you should be allowed to stay for a maximum of 6 months, but it is up to the immigration official to determine the length of your stay.

      2. Renting cars in the States is a very easy process. You can rent cars through our cars booking engine: http://cars.travelstart.co.za/ – one can choose which airport to collect the rental at and which one drop off at.       3. I just had a quick look at pricing. A round trip for 2 people flying with BA departing in April and returning in July will cost R36 000 +-. If you play around with dates on our website you may be able to find something cheaper.

    • Hi Jimmy, thank you for the question. If you book a one-way flight there and a separate flight back, you will pay a infant fare and a child fare price for each respective leg of the journey. If you book a return ticket you will pay a child fare for both ways. The child fare is generally 75% of the adult fare. The reason is that your infant is considered a child if he/she turns 2 during the travel period. Happy travels, Liam

      12 months is an infant, so he would not qualify for a seat. Maybe a bassinet depending on the airline. SAA, the infant needs too be less then 6 months of age (at time of travel) other airlines are different and then it depends on the infants weight and length (due to safety reasons). Did you book your flight with Travelstart?     • Hi Joseph, that’s a great question. At the moment it is too far in advance to book a flight returning in March 2015. It is possible to book a flight departing on the 4th of May 2014 and returning in Feb 2015. You have a couple of options. Option A: Book a flexi-ticket (extra R795) flight departing on the 4th of May 2014 and returning at some point in Feb 2015. Closer to the time you would be able to change your flight for no additional fee (as long as there are seats available in the same booking class). Option B: Wait a month until the March 2015 return seats become available and then book the correct dates. I suggest that you call TravelBar (our in-house team) – they will be able to advise you further. Call 0861 878 278 & select option 2. Cheers, Liam

The cost is approx R1500 and will take between 5 and 15 working days depending on which office you apply at.       To get the best deals it is generally best to book in advance. There are a number of smaller airlines in the US such as Jet Blue, Virgin America, South West Airline and Spirit. These are the US equivalent of Kulula or Mango. Check the prices with them for internal flights, just be aware that some of these airlines charge you extra for baggage etc that are usually covered.

      We have contacted Malawian Airlines on: 011 722 0230 and spoke to a lady by the name of Dikeleli, who advised the following.

      All passengers will be rerouted to: Lilongwe which is 3 – 4 hours drive from Blantyre.

      Passengers need to make their own way to Blantyre.

      However if they do not wish to use their tickets, Dikeleli at Malawian Airlines confirmed passengers can send it in for a refund, and a full refund will be due to the passenger. Tickets need to be cancelled 24 hours prior too original date of departure.

      If you are booking a domestic flight you are required to use a domestic voucher.

      Vouchers do not apply for Mango airline.

      The voucher amount is deducted from the total cost of both tickets. (not per traveller)

      The voucher code itself is case sensitive. No spaces must be left in front of the voucher code when typing it in.

      I have taken a look at flight options and it seems that the cheapest fare is R7216 per person return. This is with SAA.

      Generally speaking the further in advance you book the cheaper it will be.

      They are closed on weekends and according to their website on the following dates:

      2015: 1.1., 6.1., 3.4., 6.4., 1.5., 14.5., 19.6., 24. – 25.12., 31.12.

      Their Customer Service communicates in English.
      It is also possible to send an email to them via their online form:

      The usual procedure would be to book your flight tickets, apply for a visa within the required time with all your necessary documentation. One can apply up to 3 months in advance.

      When you check-in for an international flight you check in up to 3 hours prior to departure, with your luggage and passport.

      Depending on the airline you flying with, you will also need to see if a transit visa is required.

      Seating and meals can also be requested prior to departure, depending on the airline.

      If it is an Air Canada flight unfortunately they charge for seating and you would need to book and pay for seating direct with the airline or do pre-seating 24 hours prior to departure.

      I’ve done a search using your e-mail address babour_esam@yahoo.com and found a booking which was made on the 1st July. This booking has already been cancelled and no money was debited from this card.

      If a booking has been made on our website and payment is inserted, our security payments team first do background checks on the card before processing payment.

      If you contact us the same day the booking was made we are able to cancel the ticket (if issued) and refund less a R100 per ticket.

      Travelstart offers an optional service called a “Premium Service Package” should you need assistance with seating, meals, entering in your frequent flyer number. If you have purchased this through us we will be able to assist with seating on international flights (for airlines that do not charge for seating)

      Some airlines do charge for seating. For this passengers will need to book seats directly with the airline itself.

      Should they not wish to pay for seats they can request it 24 hours prior to departure directly on the airlines website.

      Seating on (majority) of domestic flights can only be requested on the airlines website 24 hours prior to departure.

      If they are not offered you will only be able to pay via Card. You welcome to book with (example a parents card if they have knowledge of this) you will then need to show a front copy of the card and copy of the credit card holders ID at check-in. Along with your original ID.

      Please e-mail your new dates of travel or if you are wanting to suspend the ticket. Kindly note only some airlines permit this.

      Our amendments team will revert back via e-mail assisting accordingly. If you are happy with the quote provided you will need to reply in writing accepting it before they will proceed with the change. They will then send an invoice once payment has been received for the amendment they will reissue the ticket.

      Please note all changes need to be made minimum 24 hours prior to departure. It’s best you contact them soonest for a quote or any information needed on amendments to your booking.

      If the booking was made directly with the airline you will need to contact them direct.

Ask for the seat number. Then call the agent for the 2nd booking give them their booking reference number and ask them to pre-seat the passenger next to the seat number provided earlier.

      I see you entered your card details the first time, but nothing was processed and then re-entered card details again.

      The first attempt did not go through, only when entering your card details the second time was the payment processed.

      It depends on the airline you are traveling with and your booking class. Every airline has a different cancellation policy and every class has different restrictions on the ticket purchased. The cheaper the ticket the more restrictive the rules.

      An infant does not occupy a seat. When making a booking on our website, you will select 1 Adult and 1 Infant. We will add up the total amount of both passengers and then divide it by 2. However an infant fare is significantly less then an adult fare.

If you have purchased a flight booking with Travelstart you welcome to contact us on info@travelstart.com and an agent will gladly advise if the airline allows pre-seating at not additional cost. For most domestic flights pre-seating is not permitted up till 24 hours before departure. On some of those domestic airlines they do allow it an an additional cost. With international flights seating is permitted (some you have to pay for pre-seating others this is for free)

    I have my sisters kids that we urgently need to get to us but they are 8 and 10! I cant expect them to travel on their own anf need a nanny to make sure they are fine!
    The flight will be from George to Lanseria South Africa!

      If the kids are traveling as unaccompanied minors you will need to contact the airline direct. They will be able to assist and advise what documents are required when purchasing their flights.

  125. I booked a flight for my sister at about 13:30pm today. My account was deducted. She received the first email but still hasn’t received the E ticket. Her flight is for tomorrow at 8; 30am. The reference is ZA02634941. Please sort it out, as we are now starting to panic.

  126. Hi, I booked on Mango (Dbn – Cape Town) and there is no Mango reference to “check in” on Line on any confirmation mails

      Thanks for getting in touch.

      When making a Mango booking they would e-mail you their Mango confirmation. If you did not receive it from them, you can contact them direct and give your name and surname and flight details. They will then resend your Mango confirmation to the e-mail address used to make the booking.

      Please also confirm your e-mail address with them, as sometimes it was spelt incorrect at the time of making the booking and this could be why you did not receive the Mango confirmation.

  127. I tried booking for a flight after submitting the payment info there was a message that the flight was no longer available. How do I know a flight is still available?

  128. Can i book a ticket with my fnb card for my mother and still recieve free travel insurance for her?

    Can i buy 2 tickets with one card and. Then get travel insuraance for both passangers off one credit card?

      I’m afraid not, only the card holder will be covered for Travel Insurance when traveling.

      However I do suggest contacting your bank as they will be able to provide you with the most up to date information.

    I made a booking yesterday (27/10/2016) and was told payment will be processed within 24 hours and then I would receive my e-ticket, however, part of the payment was debited from my account and not the full payment and when can I receive my e-ticket? Reference ZA02723990.

    I cannot manage my booking on Air China using the booking ref or the eticket number provided and I paid extra for the seat/ meal selection option. I called your call centre and they were supposed to update my contact number which hasn’t been done either.
