5 Facts About Ebola Affecting Travel – FAQ Friday

Video Transcription

Welcome to another edition of Travelstart’s FAQ Friday with me, Nick Paul. This week we are discussing 5 facts about ebola affecting travel.

Fact #1

Until now outbreaks have only been recorded in countries like Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Senegal. With the last 2 having significantly lower outbreaks than the first 3.

Fact #2

Geographically speaking Monrovia in Liberia is actually closer to Paris than it is to cities like Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Maputo or Johannesburg. For South Africans this is important because many South Africans travel to East Africa, and one is actually a long way away from the infected countries.

Fact #3

Ebola isn’t transmitted through air, water or food. It is only transmitted via contact with infected animals or through bodily fluids.

Fact #4

Travel Insurance will cover treating you, if you are infected by Ebola. Though, there is a chance that the government may not allow you back into South Africa, in which case you would receive treatment in the country in which you were infected.

Fact #5

Travel insurance will not cover you for trip cancelation if you are nervous about travelling to infected countries.

So that’s it, 5 facts about ebola affecting travel!
