Lanseria Introduces ‘Ring & Ride’ and Successfully Slaughters the Stress of Airport Pick-Ups

Try 'Ring & Ride' next time you're picking up at <a href=.” width=”980″ height=”310″ />

Let me be clear – I don’t like travelling through O.R. Tambo International Airport. I don’t have a problem with the airport itself – it’s clean, there are facilities aplenty and I have only once fallen victim to the baggage pilferage that has tarnished the airport’s reputation over the years.

That said I do prefer going through Lanseria – Johannesburg’s alternative airport. As a cool-headed coastal dweller, I tend to shy away from anything involving traffic, crowds, and anxiety, and for my needs I find there is a lot less stress involved when it comes to getting to and from Lanseria. Sure the Gautrain doesn’t stop at Lanseria but it is much closer to where my sister lives in the northern suburbs, there are no tolls en route, and you get free coffee, tea and newspapers. It is also a private airport and therefore you get the feeling it is better managed than its ACSA owned peer. Plus, Mango and Kulula fly here so the chance of finding a cheaper flight is that much more likely.

After heading through Lanseria this last weekend I happened on another reason as to why this private, punk little airport adds a little more convenience to its passengers’ travel day.

Introducing Ring & Ride

Lanseria describes it as “the new way to be collected from the Drop-Off Zone at Lanseria International Airport”.

What is it?

The Ring & Ride car park waiting area at Lanseria is an ideal place to wait in your car until your arriving friend, colleague or family member calls you (from their cellphone), to let you know that they have landed and are ready to be collected.

After receiving the call simply drive up to the Drop & Go area and collect them, without having to pay for parking!

Ring & Ride is free of charge and can be used for up to 1 hour, while waiting in your car.

Where is it?

The Ring & Ride waiting area is located on the entrance road leading into Lanseria Airport – it is next to the ExecuJet facility. It is close to both the paid public parking area and Drop & Go, allowing your pickup to easily make use of either of these.

Follow the signage as you enter the airport road to the demarcated vehicle waiting area.

Additional Info

  • This is a free parking lot. Maximum waiting time is 1 hour.
  • You must remain in your vehicle while waiting.

Space is limited and is offered on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
