Mount Nelson Hotel High Tea

The Mount Nelson Hotel situated in Orange Street, Gardens is very well known for its high tea. They even have a signature tea which is blended from six teas, namely, Darjeeling, Kenya, Assam, Keemun, Yunnan, Ceylon, and rose petals from their garden. Depending on the weather, you can enjoy this in the lounge, on the terrace, or even around the garden fountain.

High Tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel

For those of you who have smaller appetites, the morning session from 9:30 to 12:30 is considered the lighter version with both sweet and savoury selections, and of course, a wide variety of teas. This is available for R165 per person.
For the more hungry, the full afternoon session from 14:30 to 17:30 includes scones, finger sandwiches (fillings include roast beef and smoked salmon), and traditional South African milk tart, or melktert as us locals like to call it. This is available for R225 per person. To sample some local wine, a glass of Boschendal Grand Cuvee 2007 can be included for R295 per person. If you want to mark the occasion with more of a celebratory ambience, a glass of bubbly, Taittinger Brut Reserve, can be added for R425 per person. As they say, it must be 17:00 somewhere!

Afternoon Tea at Table Bay Hotel

High tea is served at The Lounge restaurant in the Table Bay Hotel by the V&A Waterfront from 14:30 to 17:30 every day except Sundays. The elegantly decorated entrance hall will transport you back to the times of opulence and decadence while you absorb the stunning views of Table Mountain and the harbour – all whilst being serenaded by the sounds of the grand piano.
The full high tea is served at R185 per person and includes three courses, as well as cappuccino and a variety of teas such as oolong, green, and rooibos. For your first course you can enjoy some savoury sandwiches and quiches. Next comes scones with lemon curd and berry compote, and finally, the sweet treats are served from the buffet table. Expect some delicious chocolate mocha mousse, flourless chocolate cake, and the signature koeksister which is adapted to be less sweet and spicier.

Cape Grace High Tea

The Cape Grace Hotel is also situated at the Waterfront and offers high tea in The Library of Signal Restaurant from 12:00 to 18:00 every day
If you are not in the mood for too much food you can join the Cream Tea at R65 per person which includes home-made scones with preserves and loose-leaf tea or coffee. The Afternoon Tea is available for R95 per person and includes more of a feast with savoury scones, finger sandwiches, sweet treats, and of course, lots of tea varietals! The Deluxe Afternoon Tea includes all of the above and is complemented with a glass of sparkling wine for R140 per person.
