While the city’s beaches often claim the most attention of tourists, there are plenty of other top attractions to entertain visitors to Eilat. North of the city, the Arava region is an arid desert where apart from the outstanding natural beauty, there are archaeological and historical sites to be explored. Coral Beach is the number one venue for scuba diving expeditions. The area is a nature conservation area and there are strict regulations to adhere to. The south beach area has spectacular views and is popular for snorkelling, windsurfing and kite-surfing.
The underwater observatory is a top attraction for its window to view the Red Sea marine life. The marine park houses an above and underwater observation tower, photographic studio, shark tank, sizeable aquarium, an oceanarium simulator, yellow submarine as well as various restaurants and cafes.
On land entertainment includes the family friendly Max Entertainment Palace. This exciting venue showcases the EVO show – an international acrobatic show, Maximum 3D cinema that has a variety of 3D films displayed on a 350m tall screen; and Frame Fantasy which is an exhibition of photographs and optical illusions.
Another unique attraction in Eilat is the Amram Pillars. This walking expedition takes you to these huge soft sandstone pillars carved by flowing water. Also on site are ancient copper mines; and burrows and shafts from the Roman period.
Eilat Airport – ETH
Also known as J Hozman Airport, Eilat Airport is located in the central area of the city of Eilat, next to Route 90. The majority of the flights handled by the airport are domestic flights to Tel Aviv and Haifa.
