Botswana is a landlocked country in the heart of Southern Africa. It is one of the great safari destinations in Africa and home to some of the most unique landscapes in the world.
Sunken into the blistering sand of the Kalahari Desert is the Okavango Delta, an oasis of lagoons and glittering waterways surrounded by palm, papyrus and reed forests. The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park will delight bird watchers as the immense stretch blushes pink with flamingos, while the Chobe National Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park never fail to amaze with their awe-inspiring landscapes and abundance of wild inhabitants.
River boat cruises, hot air balloon rides and elephant safaris are all unforgettable ways to experience this beautiful country. Other classic Botswana experiences include encounters with the indigenous San tribes and meanders through the ancient baobabs in Nxai Pan National Park.
When the days are done, spend your nights beneath the stars in a safari camp.

Botswana is considered a relatively safe country. However, it is recommended that you use common sense and remain vigilant as you would in any other unfamiliar country. Travel insurance to cover theft and medical expenses is recommended.
Avoid flashy displays of wealth and carrying large sums of cash and valuables, as pick-pocketing does happen. Avoid travelling alone at night and through isolated areas (especially women). Avoid driving out of the city at night as roaming wildlife and wandering livestock do pose a hazard. Only use reputable taxi services and agree on a fare before beginning the journey.
Malaria and other insect borne diseases are a risk in Botswana, so the necessary precautions should be taken to avoid bites and infection. Immunisation against yellow fever, hepatitis A & B, typhoid and rabies is recommended. Routine vaccinations include MMR, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, meningitis, varicella, polio and influenza. Stick to bottled water in rural towns.
