Ushuaia’s Museo del Fin del Mundo sports five rooms showcasing indigenous cultures, the origins of the city, ancient shipwrecks and an extraordinary collection of stuffed birds.
The building housing Ushuaia’s Maritime Museum once served as a prison, guarding dangerous convicts. Nowadays it’s a National Historic Landmark, and visitors can appreciate features such as the naval model displays, the history of the Antarctic expedition, the early inhabitant exhibitions and a variety of aspects of austral wildlife in its museum.
A tour to Wolf Island and Bird Island takes approximately 3 hours and you’ll encounter many of the regions birdlife and the impressive sea lions.
The Southern Fuegian Railway offers a scenic gateway to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. Also known as the ‘Train of the End of the World’, it is considered the most southern railway in operation. En route to the spectacular national park, visitors are greeted with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape which includes Patagonian lakes and other natural wonders.
Housed on the island of Tierra del Fuego is the national park with the same name as the region. This conservation area supports activities such as hiking, climbing, fishing and kayaking. About 20 species of wildlife exist within the park’s borders and include the red fox, the guanaco, otter and the Canadian beaver.
