The Gun Run is an annual half marathon held in Cape Town, it also happens to be the second largest road running race in South Africa. The 2016 event saw Travelstarters coming together for the second time to challenge their opponents, achieve their best time, attempt to break the record time or even just to have fun and exercise with the family—while enjoying views of the beautiful Cape Town scenery.
A total of 21, 000 entrants registered for the 24th edition of the marathon which is a new 2016 record of attendance. A portion of this year’s proceeds will go towards the Anna Foundation which supports rural communities to read, run and write!
In the spirit of Family & Fun, Silk & Steel and Go For It! 152 Travelstarters participated in the Gun Run which is almost double the number from last year (78). We are proud to be contributing towards the betterment of our community as well as promoting exercise, healthy habits and teambuilding. The Travelstart team was well organised and truly represented the brand in their bright white and blue branded bags, visors and vests!
The Gun Run is divided into the 21km, 10km and 5 km.
The 21km is the actual half marathon and this year runners had the privilege of bolting along Beach road and meandering through Clifton, as the early morning sea breeze fanned their faces. The 10km was more of a flat running surface where participants could speed past Mouille Point and The Waterfront. Finally, the 5km popularly referred to as the “fun run” was a brisk walk, jog or run across the promenade and past Green Point Park, it was very popular among the Travestarters who brought their children along to soak up the mid-morning sun.
The 2016 official winners were:

Jenna Challenor finished first for the second time in 1h 16min 25s.
