Are you one to bare all when on holidays, then perhaps you should book your next flight to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. According to a new book , ‘Twee miljoen mensen willen naakt’ (Two million people want to be naked) written by avid Dutch naturists Henk Jan Kamerbeek and Barend Toet, the Netherlands is the most naked-friendly country in the world. Of course, you wouldn’t expect anything less from a country that is known for its liberal laws. Apparently there are 2 million Netherlanders who like to walk around in their birthday suits while vacationing. Hence the wide range of nudist beaches and naturist camp sites where you can do this. Heck, there is even a federation of nudist organisations. (www.nfl.nl)
Now, you probably wonder if I, being Dutch and all, share this predilection to vacation in the nude. Well, no. I’m a bit of a prude when it comes to that and still traumatised by a holiday I took with my parents at age 11. They took me and my younger brother to a camp site in Split in what was then still Yugoslavia. (which is also a top nudist destination, by the way) After seeing men and women play tennis wearing nothing but trainers and sweat bands, I refused to come out of the tent for the entire three weeks. But that is not the only reason.
The thing is that most people do not look like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, so really, keep it all wrapped up is what I’m saying . My next holiday will be a cheap flight to Turkey or an all inclusive hotel in Egypt. Fully clothed.
