The Incidental Tourist: Winner Of #WordsTravel Blogger Experience

Judging from the amount of quality entries (51 in total!) we had to the Words Travel Blogger Experience Competition, it’s fair to say the South African travel writing scene is alive, well and bubbling over with talent.

Honestly, it was so hard for the 4 judges to pick a winner that we’ve decided to give away R300 Travelstart flight vouchers to each of the 3 runner up writers. The voucher is redeemable on any flight (domestic or international) booked on Travelstart.co.za.

In the end it was Dawn Jorgensen’s post that captured the hearts and minds of those of us tasked with picking a winner. Her beautifully crafted words, accompanying photos and actual writer experience made for a compelling entry and were unanimously selected as the winner by our judges.

Dawn’s post titled “Benin. Formerly Dahomey. Forever my African Queen.”, is an elegant and thought provoking exploration of Benin on the bulge of Africa. Dawn is a self-described “eternal traveller, avid photographer and natural beauty seeker” and we are happy to announce her as the winner of 2 Airlink tickets to anywhere on their route network. As someone who has a special love for South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia (all destinations that fall under Airlink’s route network), we’re looking forward to more travel reading goodness from Dawn.

Dawn Jorgensen from The Incidental Tourist

A mysterious beauty, unpredictable by nature, there are secrets that Africa holds close to her heart. Brave yet vulnerable. Complex. Once encountered she’s found infinitely desirable. And in this her charm and the draw of our beloved Continent. Its also exactly how I found Benin, when I travelled there a few years back.” Read the rest on The Incidental Tourist.
