FlySafair is a South African low-cost airline founded by Safair, a company with nearly 60 years of aviation experience. It operates scheduled domestic flights between major South African cities including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), George, and East London, as well as select regional international routes to destinations like Mauritius, Harare, Zanzibar, and Windhoek.

FlySafair includes one carry-on bag weighing up to 7kg with every fare. Your checked baggage allowance depends on the fare you book.

Hand luggage

Your carry-on bag must not exceed 56 × 36 × 23cm and must fit in the overhead compartment. You may also bring one small personal item, such as a handbag or slim laptop bag, measuring no more than 40 × 15 × 20cm, which must fit under the seat in front of you.

Checked baggage

Checked bags must not exceed 90 × 75 × 43cm each. Additional or overweight baggage attracts extra charges. Bags weighing more than 32kg each must be arranged separately as cargo.

To make airport check-in stress-free:

Online Check-in: Available from 24 hours before departure. Recommended to avoid queues.

Domestic Flights: Airport check-in closes 40 minutes before departure.

International Flights: Airport check-in closes 60 minutes before departure.

Pre-booking seats

You can choose a seat during flight booking and have an option for extra legroom should you wish. Payment is by credit card, and seats are limited, so book early. If you don’t pre-book, your seat will be assigned at check-in.

Unaccompanied Minors

FlySafair offers an Unaccompanied Minors service for children aged 5–11 travelling without an adult. The service costs R780 per child, per flight segment, in addition to the standard adult airfare.

FlySafair staff assist your child from check-in through boarding, provide support during the flight and hand them over to the nominated guardian at their destination. Children aged 12 and older can travel alone without this service, on an adult fare.

How to book

Arrange the service directly through FlySafair’s unaccompanied minor booking portal. Confirm availability and the required documents before finalising your child’s travel.

Documents and airport arrival

Your child must carry their original birth certificate or a certified copy certified within the past three months. The adults dropping off and collecting your child must bring their original ID or driver’s licence. The collecting guardian also needs the collection slip issued at check-in.

FlySafair recommends arriving at least 90 minutes before departure for this service. Follow the check-in and boarding instructions provided with your booking.

Pets

Cats and dogs can travel on eligible FlySafair flights through BidAir Cargo PetLounge. Pets travel in the aircraft hold, rather than the passenger cabin, and their transport must be booked separately.

Booking and travel requirements

Arrange your pet’s transport through PetLounge. Confirm route availability, costs and any breed restrictions before booking your own flight.

Your pet must travel in an IATA-approved crate large enough to stand, turn and lie down comfortably. Bring the required documents, including vaccination records, booking confirmation, a completed Shipper’s Declaration and your ID. For domestic flights, arrive at the PetLounge 2½ hours before departure.

Service dogs

Approved service dogs may travel with their owners free of charge, subject to FlySafair’s requirements and supporting documentation. Arrangements must be completed at least 48 hours before departure.
