Best time to visit Germany

The most popular times to visit Germany include the summer (May – September), when the weather is finest, and around Christmas in December (the beginning of the winter). If you do not mind crowded attractions, book your flight tickets and accommodation well in advance to ensure you get a good deal. A popular event at the end of the summer is Oktoberfest, which normally runs from late September to early October. Between May and September, you can enjoy Rhein in Flammen, a fireworks spectacle that takes place on five dates along the breath-taking banks of the Rhine. Would you rather beat the crowds? Visit Germany between March and May (spring) and between late October and November (autumn). The weather might be somewhat chilly at times, but you’ll get the benefit of lower hotel costs and a reduction in the volume of tourists. Major events that take place around these months include Maifest in May.

While the rate for violent crimes in Germany is down, beware of pickpocketing, which is a problem in most destinations around the world. Make sure your valuables and important documents are in a safe and secure place on your person, and well out of sight. Most of the larger German cities have beggars. Watch out for beggars that try to flash cardboard signs close to you, as this is a pickpocketing trick.

The cities of Berlin and Hamburg usually experience demonstrations around the first of May, which often escalate into violent clashes between the police and some of the demonstrators.

Other than that, stay alert and avoid exploring any parks on your own, and you will have a trouble-free holiday in Germany.
