The Oklahoma City National Memorial and the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism are the two most prominent tourist stops in Oklahoma City. It lets visitors understand the true impact that the 1996 terrorist attacks had on the city. Here you can watch actual news footage from the day and see some of the artifacts that they recovered in the rubble. Take a walk around the outside sanctuary to gain even more perspective on the tragedy.
Fill up on ‘Old West’ culture at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Here you can delight in everything cowboy, walk around the gardens and fishponds and grab a bite to eat at the restaurant. The museum is massive, so be prepared to walk and don’t expect to make this a quick morning visit. There are simply too many fascinating things to see here.
If you’re looking for something that will keep the kids happy, look no further than Frontier City Theme Park. After they’ve spent all their energies, you can pay a visit to the Museum of Osteology where they’re bound to stimulate the brain cells. This is America’s only skeleton museum and young and old alike will stare at the myriad of animal skeletons in absolute awe.
When evening comes around, there’s no need to sit indoors. Why not head out to Bricktown, situated in the city’s historic area, and drink in its lively atmosphere. Here you can eat, drink, watch music and shop to your heart’s content. Alternately, visit Chesapeake Energy Arena for a sporting event of note.
