Overview

Situated in Northern Namibia, Rundu is the capital of the Kavango Region, and borders on Angola. Rundu is essentially a market village famous for the wooden carvings and ornaments made by the locals.

Rundu often serves as a stopover en-route to many other destinations in Southern Africa such as Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and Etosha National Park.

Set on the banks of the Okavango River, this quaint town offers breath-taking views of the river and its wildlife. Restaurants found in the city centre offer visitors an opportunity to experience traditional Namibian cuisine. If you find yourself on the Rundu Beach (the river bank), look out for the various bars and restaurants that can be found along the river.

Visa & Customs

Health & Safety

There are no vaccinations required for entry into Namibia. If you are passing through a region prone to Yellow Fever en-route to Namibia then you are legally required to have proof of vaccination.

Malaria is prevalent in the region surrounding Rundu so it is strongly advised to take medication before, during and after your trip. Make use of mosquito nets and mosquito repellent! Be aware of cholera, particularly in more rural areas outside the city. If you decide to get vaccinated against cholera, this needs to be done 6-8 weeks prior to your trip.

Tap water is ok to drink but may taste a little metallic, so you may want to stick to drinking bottled water and always stay well-hydrated. A good travel insurance policy is advised, as there are no major hospitals in this city and should you require serious medical care, transport and health costs can work out to be very expensive.
