Salt Lake City has a fascinating blend of attractions. The pioneer themed This Is The Place Heritage Park, Hogle Zoo (just over the road from the park), Liberty Park with its lake and bird aviary, Temple Square that is one of many LDS Church sites, Olympic Legacy Plaza and its dancing, musical fountain, Utah Olympic Park (great to watch winter sporting events or even try a bobsled ride), The Lagoon Amusement pPark and the nearby Great Salt Lakes are all worth a visit.
Aside from historical landmarks and Olympics sites you will not be short of things to do in Salt Lake City. Worth a mention are activities such as concerts and picnics at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, hiking and cycling on Bonneville Shoreline Trail, skiing at one of the many ski and summer resorts found in the city or simply taking a walk around to take in the views.
Those in need of some retail therapy can try centres such as Gateway District outdoor shopping mall, the fairly new City Creek Center and Trolley Square indoor/outdoor mall for a good selection of shops, restaurants, cinemas and facilities. Other options include the boutiques and galleries in Sugar House, plus speciality stores like Utah Artist Hands, Sweet Candy Company and Anthony's Fine Art and Antiques.
As for getting around during your stay, you will find Salt Lake City’s transport system to be fairly organised and easy to use, with decent prices too. The city was designed on a very clear grid, with straight roads and a logical structure. You can hire a car if you want to travel at your own pace, or you can use the bus system that has routes across the city. There is also the TRAX light-rail train that is fun to use to get from place to place.
