Goodbye Seattle, Hello Redwood Giants

My wife and I were sad to say goodbye to our buddies and to the good times we had had in Seattle but equally excited to start the next part of our adventure – the roadtrip! We headed south and stopped off in Portland, Oregon for a few nights. It is known for its food, coffee, as a place to get a tattoo and for its strip clubs – the city of roughly 600 000 has more than 60 strips clubs, while neighboring cities of similar size like Seattle have about ten. We had some good food and coffee there. Check out Voodoo Doughnuts for a mid-morning pick-me-up.

Goodbye Seattle

We then made our way down to California, the Golden State, but it was all but golden. In fact, it was pouring with rain. But this didn’t dampen out spirits as we headed for the Redwood National and State Parks along the Redwood Highway. There is a patchwork of these parks and we drove through all of them but focussed on the national park and Prairie Creek. We stayed in Trinidad, a tiny coastal town right near the old-growth Redwood forests. We went on some great hikes and it is difficult to convey the size and magnificence of these amazing trees so I will let the pictures do the talking…
