Kulula’s Plan For Flying With Your Bike To The 2014 Cape Argus

Cyclists from near and far are gearing up for the much-anticipated 2014 Cape Argus, and so are the airlines. The famed cycle tour, which takes place on 9 March 2014, will see many athletes flying from the far corners of the country to take part in the grueling 109km challenge.

Here’s what you need to know when transporting your bike with Kulula.

Flights from O.R. Tambo and King Shaka Airport

Drop-off dates: 24 Feb – 6 March 2014.
Where: BidAir Cargo Warehouse.
Times: 8am – 6pm, Monday to Sunday.
Handling fee (one way): R300 incl. VAT.
Required documents: Handling fee receipt which will be emailed to you after payment, ID (passport, SA ID, driver’s license), confirmation of flight booking.

Flights from Lanseria Airport

Drop-off dates: 1 – 6 March 2014.
Where: Medair Hangar.
Times: 7am – 7pm, Monday to Friday and 8am – 5pm, Saturday – Sunday.
Handling fee (one way): R300 incl. VAT.
Required documents: Handling fee receipt which will be emailed to you after payment, ID (passport, SA ID, driver’s license), confirmation of flight booking.

Bidair Cargo collection point at Cape Town Airport

Pickup dates: 24 Feb – 4 March 2014.
Times: 8am – 8pm, Monday – Saturday and 8am – 6pm, Sunday.
Required documents: Waybill or limited-release tag and proof of ID.

Multi-storey parkade 1 collection point at Cape Town Airport

Pickup dates: 5 – 8 March 2014.
Times: 8am – 8pm, Wednesday – Saturday.
Required documents: Waybill or limited-release tag and proof of ID.

After the race

Drop-off dates: 9 – 12 March 2014.
Where: Multi-Storey Parkade 1 at Cape Town International Airport.
Times: 4am – 8pm, Sunday – Wednesday.
Required documents: Handling fee receipt which will be emailed to you after payment, ID (passport, SA ID, driver’s license), confirmation of flight booking.
What you get: You will get a waybill should your bike be going to O.R. Tambo or ; if it’s going to Lanseria, you will get a limited-release tag.

Finally…

In each of the above cases, please call Kulula’s Contact Centre on 0861 KULULA (585852) to organise payment of the handling fee – the handling fee must be paid before dropping your bike at your drop-off zone.

Bike’s will not be released to friends or family and they must be collected no later than 19 March 2014. For those travelling from East London and George, please call Kulula’s Contact Centre to make arrangements for Argus bicycle transport as Kulula does not fly direct to Cape Town from these cities.
