Aviation operations began at Paris Orly Airport (or Villeneuve-Orly Airport as it was then known) in 1932, when it was used as a secondary airport to Le Bourget. However, after serving as a combat field for the German Luftwaffe during World War II and the United States Army Air Forces in the post-war years, Paris Orly Airport finally came into its own and began commercial operations.

Today, the airport features two separate terminal buildings and three runways, one of which is adapted to accommodate the large Airbus A380.
