Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is a modern airport that acts as the doorway to one of the most beautiful island destinations in the world.
The airport made its debut in 1942 as a base for importing and exporting before serving as a military base during World War II. Commercial operations began in the years following the war, which gave a boost to the Mauritian economy.
As passenger numbers grew so did the airport. A new passenger terminal designed after the “traveller’s palm”, a tropical plant that grows on the island, was inaugurated on 30 August 2013.
