With its hot desert climate, the city of Mersa Matruh has two seasons – summer and a mild winter that is influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Winter falls between December and February. During this period you can experience temperatures of between 13°C and 19°C. The best time to visit and work on your tan would therefore be between March and April, or mid-August to November. Mersa Matruh is a perfect holiday destination and very safe, but for visitors there are some things to keep in mind. As Egypt is a predominantly Muslim country, it is considered rude and unacceptable to talk to local women in the street. Also, female tourists are advised to dress modestly and cover their shoulders and legs until the knees.
It is always a good idea to get your regular vaccines up to date before you travel. For your trip to Egypt, it is recommended that you get a shot for typhoid and hepatitis A. Depending on your plans in the country; you might also be interested in getting a shot for hepatitis B, rabies and yellow fever. Speak to your doctor and allow him/her to advise you on the subject.
