Best time to visit Somalia

A tropical climate is present in Somalia with dry and rainy seasons. Temperatures reach as high as 47°C along the coast, with cooler temperatures averaging 30 °C in the plateau region. It is best to visit Somalia when temperatures are cooler between the months of June and August, and during January to early February again.

Health & Safety

Travel throughout Somalia is still to be treated with caution. Reconstruction in big cities such as Mogadishu shows signs of improvement for the well-being of locals and travellers interested in voyaging to this beautiful destination. Somaliland is considered to be much safer to visit compared to anywhere else in Somalia. However, visitors are still encouraged to stick to group travel and to seek tour guides. Visitors should avoid solo travelling and staying out at night.

All travellers must be up-to-date with routine vaccines before travelling to Somalia. Be sure to obtain your measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diptheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine and a yearly flu shot. Travellers are also encouraged to get hepatitis A and B, malaria, typhoid, cholera and rabies vaccines, as there is a risk of contracting it in the country.
