Skunk Anansie and The Hives confirmed to perform at Rocking the Daisies

This exciting double-bill announcement comes a few short months after announcing that British Indie rock band, alt-J, and heavyweight electronic act, Boys Noize, are set to take the stage, rounding off the most extensive number of international acts ever to appear at Rocking the Daisies.

Seed Experiences, Rocking the Daisies’ owners and organisers, aim to bring festival audiences a variety of international acts that will appeal to a broader target market.

Brain Little, Festival Director, explains, “At Seed Experiences, we work hard to ensure our festival fans have an amazing experience. Our team works all year round to bring enthusiasts an exceptionally organised, quality music and lifestyle event. Not only have we announced some epic international acts this year, but we have some great local talent on the cards too, appealing to all festival fans, young and old”. He adds, “A word of warning from Rocking the Daisies headquarters; tickets are already selling fast, so best you get yours before we are sold out. We warned you”.

The Hives:

Originating from Fagersta, Sweden, are Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist (lead vocalist), Nicholaus Arson (guitarist with crazy stage antics), Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, and Vigilante Carlstroem; together known as The Hives. The Hives debut, 1997’s Barely Legal, garnered international attention and stunned the punk community with their eclectic and original mix of sound.

Their more studio-wise second album, Veni Vidi Vicious, saw The Hives reach mainstream success, featuring their most well-known songs “Hate to Say I Told You So”, “Main Offender”, “Die, All Right!” and “Supply and Demand”, along with their UK smash album Your New Favourite Band, classifying them as a leading garage rock revival band.

Blistering proof of the band’s success can be found with The Hives moving into glam-punk territory with the release of their latest album. The term “Lex Hives” is a phrase derived from the ancient Roman practice of enacting a system or body of laws and accepting them as a standard. Thus, the 12 songs on Lex Hives make up the holy laws after which all life from now on must be lived.

Skunk Anansie:

An amalgam of heavy metal and black feminist rage is the vibrant and stimulating British band, Skunk Anansie, who have toured globally with world-renowned acts such as U2, Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, and Rammstein, and in 1999, headlined the Glastonbury Festival.

The band, whose awe-inspiring line-up is made up of Skin (lead singer), Ace (guitar), Cass Lewis (bass) and Mark Richardson (drums), are a dynamic and parallel force, rich in chemistry and praised for pulling off exhilarating live performances.

Skunk Anansie has had a succession of hit singles including the ballads “Brazen” (Weep), “Hedonism” (Just Because You Feel Good), “Weak” and “Secretly” where, with her rich, soulful voice, Skin confirms her status as one of the most beautifully emotive rock vocalists in the UK.

After an eight-year break and regrouping in 2009, Skunk Anansie has grown even more potent, setting out on a worldwide succession of sell-out tours and releases including their return to South Africa. This coincides with the launch of their newest live acoustic album, Black Traffic, produced by world-renowned Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro). The album will be released in September 2013, just in time to perform this rousing new material to audiences at Rocking the Daisies in October.

Combine Skunk Anansie, The Hives, alt-J and Boys Noize with Rocking the Daisies and you have one of the biggest international line-ups to rock the South African festival scene. Catch them all on Saturday night at the festival.
