South African Airways and Precision Air are currently the only airlines offering direct flights from Johannesburg (JNB) to Dar es Salaam (DAR).
Note to customers: From 17 September 2012 SAA will have exclusivity on the direct South Africa - Dar es Salaam route. Precision Air has announced that it will discontinue its flights from Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam citing their decision to focus on domestic routes as the main reason. Don’t worry though; Precision Air won’t leave you high and dry. They’ll be making alternative arrangements for customers who purchased tickets to fly after September 17 to reach their final destinations through other airline partners.
SAA Dar es Salaam Flights
South African Airways offer daily, direct flights to Dar es Salaam from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport. The flight schedule is as follows:
- Daily flights available from JNB on SA188 departing at 14:25pm arriving in DAR at 18:50pm
- SA186 leaves a little earlier (09:30am) and arrives in DAR at 13:55pm but is only available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays
- Daily flights available from DAR to JNB departing at 6:50am on SA 189 and arriving at 9:25am
- SA 187 departs at 14:50pm and arrives at 17:30pm. This flight is available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays

Julius Nyerere International Airport (code DAR) is the main airport in Dar es Salaam and most likely where you’ll land on flights from South Africa to Dar es Salaam. The airport is a hub for Air Tanzania and Precision Air as well as small charter airlines Coastal Aviation and ZanAir.
