Summer (December to March): Hot, humid and full of life. Expect beach days, tropical rain showers and peak energy, especially around Carnival. High tourist season.
Winter (June to August): The sweet spot. Cooler, drier weather (18°C–26°C) makes it ideal for city exploring, sightseeing and nature trips. It’s also one of the best times to visit places like Rio de Janeiro and Iguazu Falls.
Shoulder Seasons (April–May & September–November): Less crowds, pleasant weather and good travel deals. These months are perfect if you want balance without the chaos or peak-season prices.
Samba away at the Rio Carnival!
Rio Carnival isn’t one parade, it’s the entire city switching modes. It takes place every year between February and early March. There are ticketed samba stadium shows if you want structure, and hundreds of free street parties (blocos) if you don’t. You can dance all day, disappear for a nap, then head straight back out. No commitment, just follow the noise.
Eat your way through Brazil
Portions are big, prices are fair, and no one rushes you out. Street food is safe and everywhere, lunch is usually the main event. PS: sharing plates is normal. Try feijoada, a rich black bean and meat stew, Brazilian barbecue where the meat keeps coming, and coxinhas, crispy chicken-filled snacks. Finish with brigadeiros, soft chocolate treats that make self-control optional. If you like meat, you’ll be very happy. If you like dessert, even happier.
Triple threat fun: Beaches. Cities. Mountains.
Brazil is great if you get bored easily. You can start the week on the beach, spend a few days in a proper city, then escape to cooler mountain towns or national parks without flying halfway across the country. Variety is baked in. You don’t have to plan hard to get it.
