Getting to know FlySafair

FlySafair – SA’s oldest newest airline. Founded by Safair, considered to be Africa's best known air logistics and specialised air services company, FlySafair was born from a company that already has almost 50 years of experience in aviation.

Their inaugural commercial domestic flights commenced on 16th October 2014 on the following route: Cape Town - Johannesburg (ORIA) – Cape Town; followed by Cape Town-Port Elizabeth– Cape Town on 30th October 2014; Cape Town-George– Cape Town on 13th November 2014; Johannesburg-George-Johannesburg and Johannesburg-Port Elizabeth-Johannesburg on 3rd December 2014. Baggage policy

FlySafair keeps their fares low by excluding the price of checked baggage. Should you wish to add a bag to your flight this can be selected during the flight booking process on our site for only R150 per bag per flight (up to a maximum of 20 kgs) If you forgot to purchase your baggage don’t despair - to purchase a bag or two please click here. Hand luggage is included in your fare at a maximum weight of 7 kgs. Hand luggage weighing in excess of 7 kg’s per bag or which is too large to fit into the overhead stowage compartments will need to be checked in the hold at a cost of R250 per flight for the bag as well as a R85 service fee at the airport on departure.

Hand luggage maximum size dimensions (56 x 36 x 23cm). Checked-in baggage maximum size dimensions (90 x 75 x 43cm).All baggage costs and restrictions apply to children and infants as well as adults.

Check in

Check-in opens 2 hours prior to flight departure and closes 40 minutes before flight departure. Each passenger requires photo identification for checking-in. For infants and children travelling, a certified copy of their birth certificate is required.

We recommend checking in online prior to getting to the airport – it saves you time and is really easy. Online check-in opens 24 hours prior to departure and closes 4 hours prior to flight departure.

Click here for online check-in. You require your FlySafair reference number and the traveller’s surname in order to online check-in. If you’ve checked in online make sure to drop your bags off at the bag drop-off zone at least 40 minutes prior to departure.

Cabin Classes

FlySafair operates the super safe and reliable Boeing 737-400's with a seating capacity of 165 passengers per aircraft. Seating configuration is 3-3. At the moment pre-seating cannot be done on Travelstart’s website. If you would like to book a specific seat (at a cost of R40 per person per flight) or a seat with extra Leg room (at a cost of R100 per person per flight) click here and enter your FlySafair reference number and the traveller’s surname.

Payment can only be made by credit card. Don’t forget to book early to avoid disappointment as seats are limited. If you don’t want to pre-book a seat you will be assigned one at check in but then choice will be limited.

Food on board

FlySafair serves a selection of delicious light snacks and refreshments onboard and payment can be made with cash during the flight. Debit cards, credit cards, EFTs or cheques are regrettably not accepted.

Their menu includes the following tasty delights: peanuts, crisps, muffins, chocolates/sweets, biltong + kiddies Box. Drinks to purchase include: tea/coffee/hot chocolate, water/fruit juice/cold drinks, beer & cider + wine (red or white).

Unaccompanied Minors or Pets

Regrettably, FlySafair does not accommodate carriage of unaccompanied minors. Only children over the age of 12 may fly alone and any children under the age of 12 needs to be accompanied by a passenger 16 years or older. FlySafair loves your pets as much as you but unfortunately no pets are permitted on FlySafair flights.

  • Durban (King Shaka)
  • East London
