Located on the Southern edge of the North Male Atoll, Male is the capital of the Maldives and the city occupies the entire island. The island is around a kilometre wide, and 1.7 kilometres wide with around 100,000 people living on it at any one time.
There are a range of different options when it comes to activities, with the surrounding beaches offering fantastic for swimming hideaways and a range of other water sports. The artificial beach on Male’s East coast is fantastic for surfing. A great way to explore the marine life in the area is on the Whale Submarine. The Whale Submarine will take you on a 40 minute trip, which will bring you up close and personal to the marine life of Male.
When it comes to finding somewhere to stay on the island of Male there are several fantastic choices on offer. The first of these is the Hulhule Island Hotel which is located close to the airport and has a swimming pool, and its own strip of beach. Another good option is the Traders Hotel which was formerly the Holiday Inn. This 5-Star hotel is one of the newest on the island.

Most visitors to the Maldives will use the capital, Male as a hub to travel onwards to other destinations. The islands of the Maldives themselves are known as one of the most beautiful natural areas in the world with an endless amount of tropical Atolls on offer. Lost Luggage: Lost luggage should be reported to your airline directly. Baggage lost in the terminal should be reported to airport authorities.
Airport Hotels: There is only one hotel located on the same island as the airport and that is Hulhule Island Hotel. This hotel is less than a five minute drive from the airport.
Car Hire: Driving is not a suitable option in the Maldives with transport being provided by Ferries and sea planes (island hoppers).
