Fly To Siem Reap, Cambodia
As the gateway to the ancient ruins and temples of Angkor, Siem Reap has become one of Cambodia’s better known destinations in recent years. This is where history and culture merge to give you a destination that has plenty to offer – whatever your tastes.
The city’s name is something of a legend in itself, literally meaning the ‘Reap of Siam’ or ‘Siem’ as it is called in Cambodia (ancient Thailand). This name was given by a former king, referring to the conflict between the Siamese and Khmer that went hundreds of years back in history.
As for the city itself, it has all of the Asian fusion you might expect – Chinese, French, Thai and indigenous Khmer influences make it entirely unique. From markets to tiny shops selling silk and other curios, to rice paddies, floating villages and incredible food, Siem Reap is sure to be a memorable experience.

Outdoor attractions meanwhile include Tonle Sap Lake and its nearby bird sanctuary, and Angkor Centre for Conservation and Biodiversity.
A fun way to take in the sights is to try a day tour with a local tour guide (make sure you only go with licensed guides however). This will give you more of an ‘off the beaten path’ experience, while also showcasing the city’s best-known highlights. Markets include Old Market and Central Market, while Lucky Market Shopping Center and Angkor Shopping Center are two of the major malls in the city. Speciality shops offer your best chance of genuine, handmade local crafts – these include Snadai Scarf Shop, Bayon Souvenir Shop and Samatoa Silk Tailor Shop.
The main forms of public transport include hired bicycles or motorbikes, tuk tuks and rental cars. If you want to get to nearby towns or cities, you can travel by boat for a great adventure – there is a ferry at the floating village about 11km from town.
