Frequently Asked Questions

An instameet is an Instagram get together, where anyone with a love for photography and Instagram can come together, meet each other, take and post photos. Instagram has a strong community in South Africa and it’s a great reason to go to a new place and explore with like-minded people. Early this year South Africa was ranked the 5th most instagrammable country in the world.

South Africa is celebrating 25 years of democracy on the 27th April 2019, our Freedom Day. This is a big milestone for our country and to help celebrate we are hosting an instameet in Arniston in the Western Cape. It’s a great opportunity to showcase a stunning coastal town and show off the beauty of South Africa.

The event is open to anyone. All you need to do is register for the event on the website and show up. We have organised a range of voluntary events you can join if you wish.

You will be responsible for your own travel and accommodation costs, but the events and instameet party on the evening of the 27th April are sponsored by South African Tourism.

We encourage everyone to book their accommodation early to ensure you have a place to stay. Arniston has a hotel, lots of guesthouses, and a campsite. If that doesn’t work you can also book in the town of Bredarsdorp which is very close.

We have a range of activities available for you to join, from hosted photo walks of the town, to sea cave and sand dune explorations, and event surf lessons. The main event will be cocktail beach party on the 27th April. Besides the organised walks, you’re free to explore the town on your own, or join friends.

A number of top local and international Instagrammers are confirmed attendees, along the teams behind SA Tourism’s @meetsouthafrica and @southafrica Instagram accounts, plus wide range of amazing South African photographers.

Not to worry, registration simply helps us to gauge how many people are coming, but if you register and can’t make it we understand.

The event is being hosted by South African Tourism and we encourage everyone to tag @meetsouthafrica and use the #InstaMeetSouthAfrica hashtag on all your content.

The moment you tag @meetsouthafrica and use the #InstaMeetSouthAfrica tag your photo will automatically be entered. The amazing team at SA Tourism will choose and notify the winners after the event.
