Best time to visit Changchun

The best time to visit Changchun is in winter, particularly in January and February, the coldest months of the season. Snow covers the expanse, and trees stand like bleached pyramids. Fall in love with the art of snow and ice when you go skiing, ice-skating or ice boating, and even engage in snow-sled tourism activities. In addition to the brief high temperatures in July and August (autumn), the weather is mild and pleasant. The climate is suitable for travel and outdoor activities during these months. At times one can even experience two seasons in one day as the climate tends to be quite temperamental. Summers (September through October) are usually short and considerably warm, with temperatures ranging in frequencies from 23 degrees Celsius to 27 degrees Celsius. For some, this is quite cool, whilst summer gear includes trendy flip-flops, sarongs, t-shirts and shorts – make sure you are comfortably dressed when getting around the busy city.

Overview

Changchun is located in the central part of Songliao Plain in Northeast China, covering a total area of 20,571 square kilometres. As the capital of Jilin Province, it is the second largest city in Northeast China and the political, economic and cultural centre of the province.

The forest city, consisting of woods, forest, and people weaves together; displaying a distinct characteristic of the city. Almost half of the city’s ground has been draped in foliage, which makes it one of the top cities in this facet. Greenery in and around the city makes the city an oxygen rich public house; providing people with fresh air to enjoy.

Besides an extremely favourable climate, with enough sunshine, these factors provide a very good foundation for the growth of crops. The area produces a rich harvest of corn and soya.

Health & Safety

All travellers should be up to date with routine vaccinations, as vaccinations are required. Most travellers to Changchun, China will need vaccinations as well as medications for travellers’ diarrhoea. • Japanese Encephalitis: You may need this vaccine if your trip will last more than a month, depending on where you are going in China and what time of year you are travelling. You should also consider this vaccine if you plan to visit rural areas in China, or will be spending a lot of time outdoors, even for trips shorter than a month. Subway: Changchun subway has been in use since October 2002, and there is a plan to operate 19 subway lines by 2030. Railway lines pass Changchun railway station and other main transportation hubs.
